Got Advice?

The 16-year old sister of a good friend of mine is having a hard time. She’s in France and knows enough of the language to understand that she’s being picked on, hard-core, by her flatmates. It’s really doing a number on her self-esteem.

I was wondering if any of you could recommend a book, or article, or blog that might help her out? It’d be greatly appreciated.

  1. Tell her about ‘Bust’ magazine.

..or just buy her Rosetta Stone in Italian and Spanish so she can learn how to swear back at them in 3 different languages.

  2. Hey, thanks for the comment. As for a book for your friend’s sister, I would recommend Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. Sedaris lived in Paris for awhile and writes some hilarious stories about his linguistic/cultural mishaps and strange encounters. Certainly won’t change the deplorable behavior of the flatmates, but hopefully it will give her a laugh.

  3. I don’t think literature is what she needs right now…
